Lever Sourcing Templates: Top Considerations

Recruiting teams can leverage Lever's personalization and integration capabilities to craft effective sourcing emails and track their success, boosting candidate engagement and landing top talent.

Also, because Lever is also your ATS, you will get a more complete picture of your candidate process through the funnel if you use an integrated system.

Personalization with Lever

Personalization

Since you’re going to use Lever to send your outreach campaigns, you want to start by understanding what capabilities Lever has for personalizations.

The key variables that you’ll want to use from Lever are below.

  • Candidate's first name
  • Your company name
  • Your first name
  • Your full name
  • Candidate's first source. Note that a candidate's opportunity can have multiple source tags. This auto-text token will pull in the first-ranked source tag.

On “Candidate’s first source”, you really only want to do this if you want to reference where you first got in touch with a candidate.

This is most helpful if you are going to reach out to people who have been previous candidates in the past. It adds another detail to the email that is specific to the person, and so even though it’s not relevant to the job, it may increase candidate engagement.

Targeting & Frequency

Before you pick a template, you have to work backwards from the role that you’re looking to fill to your strategy. There are a lot of roles that are similar in seniority and experience to roles that you’ve filled previously. And there, it’s often very useful to revisit candidates that didn’t make it all the way through the process last time.

However, if your target role is new in expertise or seniority, then past candidates are less likely to be useful, particularly recent candidates. And even more important in that case, don’t limit your outreach to just 1 touch. It’s too easy for candidates to ignore 1 message, and most often it’s 2 - 3 messages that end up getting the result you want.

Step 1

Subject: Chatting again with [Hiring_organization]

Hi [Candidate_ name],

I hope you are doing well. I’m reaching out from [Hiring_organization].

I know that we’ve spoken to you in the past about open roles. Today, I’m recruiting for [Job_title] roles. I wanted to reach back out to check in.

Some of our best people are people who it took time to find the right spot for in our organization. So I wanted to reach out to see if you would be open to having a conversation.

Even if you aren’t excited about the [Job_title] role, I would love to get to know you for future opportunities.

How about hopping on the phone to chat for 20 minutes this week?

Let me know when it's good for you.

Best,
[Your_name]

Subject: Re: to prior thread

Hi [Candidate_ name],

I wanted to check back, in case my prior email slipped through the cracks.

As I mentioned, I’m reaching out from [Hiring_organization] looking for [Job_title] roles.

I wanted to add that [Hiring_organization} is motivated to fill our [Job_title] role. So I expect that some of the situation will have changed from the last time you spoke with [Hiring_organization].

I am reaching out as I really think this time around the conversation could yield a good outcome from both sides. So I hope you are open to taking the time to chat.

Happy to make it quick. Let me know when it's good for you.

Best,
[Your_name]

Template 2. Emailing a candidate who has NEVER engaged before about a new role

Step 1

Subject: Reaching out from [Hiring_organization]

HI [Candidate_name],

I’m [Your_name], a recruiter from [Company_name].

I hope you are doing well. I came across your profile on [Location_online], and I got excited. Your time at [organization] is a great fit for what we’re looking for at [Hiring_organization] in the [Job_title] role.

[Hiring_organization] is looking for [skills required] for the open [Job_title] role. I think you have what the [Job_title] role needs.

I understand that you have opportunities today, and I think this one is worth a conversation. Specifically, [Company_name] is motivated to fill this [Job_title] role.

Let me know when it's good for you to chat for 20 minutes.

Best,
[Your_name]

Step 2 (Sent 7 days after Step 1)

Hi [Candidate_ name],

I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to check that my prior email didn’t fall through the cracks.

I’m reaching out because I think there’s a conversation that is worth having here. So I want to make sure that you have the information you need to decide if it’s worth your time.

Any questions that I can answer for you that are top of mind?

Best,
[Your_name]

Step 3 (Sent 7 days after Step 2)

Subject: Re to prior thread

I wanted to follow up one last time on the [Job_title] role at the [Hiring_organization].

It’s a good time to consider joining [HIring_organization] because of [reason 1] and [reason 2].

Specifically, this [Job_title] role is a priority for the organization because of [reason 3]. And it’s a great opportunity for career growth because of [reason 4].

[Hiring_organization] is looking for [skills required] for the open [Job_title] role. I think your experience at [Candidate_organization] is exactly the type of background that we’re looking for here.

I would like to share more about the role, and get your take on it. This offer to chat live doesn’t expire. So if at any point you are up to have a conversation, please reach out.

Let me know when it's good for you for a quick chat.

Best,
[Your_name]
